Portrait of Simon John, a 18 year old Sudanese albino from Yambio, Western Equatoria (Sudan).
Simon has no parents because his father and mother died during the war so he had to take care of himself. He works in construction. He says he works in the hot sun all day long, but he has no choice because he has to pay for his food, his school fee and his rent. Simon skin is badly damaged from the sun. His delicate skin is prone to infections and diseases if not taken care of. Albinism is a genetic condition caused by a lack of melanin in the skin, eyes and hair. Photo credit: Benedicte Desrus
