4 december 2010 - Juba, Southern Sudan - Contestants getting ready to participate in Miss Malaika South Sudan 2010 at Nyakuron Cultural Centre Juba. The contest featured 15 women from all 10 of South Sudan's states. The event was a way to show off their talents, traditions and culture. The competition was originally put together in 2005 by the southern Sudanese diaspora living in neighbouring Kenya. The word "Malaika" means angel in Kiswahili, spoken widely in Kenya, the country where tens of thousands of southerners fled to, during ongoing conflicts. photo credit: Benedicte Desrus
