Since April 4, 2020, Mérida’s City Council in coordination with the company “Prospective Vision” have been spraying Dutri Health, a sodium chlorite disinfectant, daily over the city’s markets, parks and other public spaces to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Mérida is one of the first Yucatecan municipalities to initiate actions of this type. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 and recognised it as a pandemic on 11 March 2020.
