Julissa Chuc Haas portrayed during a pacific protest in front of the Government Palace in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico on December 20, 2022. Julissa Chuc Haas is a 29-year-old woman originally from Quintana Roo, who gave birth to her daughter on October 26 at the Agustín O’Horán General Hospital in Mérida. At the hospital, a social worker asked Julissa about her sexual orientation and from there, Julissa had her newborn and her six-year-old boy taken away from her. “I’m a victim of discrimination because of my condition of poverty and my sexual orientation, and that is why they deprive me of the right to be a mother”, she says. Julissa has been asking for the return of her two children for about two months. Last Sunday, she began a sit-in at the gates of the Government Palace to demand that the Attorney for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (Prodennay) return her children.
