2010 Busagazi, Uganda - Baluka Dulorensi gets ready to sleep under a mosquito net she set up to prevent malaria. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease. The disease kills over a million people in the world every year, mostly children and pregnant women. Malaria transmission can be reduced preventing mosquito bites by using mosquito nets and insect repellents, or by mosquito-control measures such as spraying insecticides inside houses and draining standing water where mosquitoes lay their eggs.
