22 may 2010 - Western Equatoria State, South Sudan - An SPLA soldier shows the bullet holes in a car that was ambushed and burnt by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) on the road between Yambio and Tambura. The three victims were government officials in the State Ministry of Education: Mr. William Arkangelo Baabe, Mr. Gabriel Makana (49 years old) and Baraka Josefati (25 years old). The LRA has attacked a number of roads, villages, and clinics in the area over the last week pushing thousands of people to flee to larger towns for protection. Western Equatoria state has been rocked by LRA activities since 2006. Thousands of people have been forced from their homes as brutal attacks continue against the civilian population in the region and neighboring DRC and CAR. Photo credit: Benedicte Desrus
