March 2008 - Mexico City, Mexico - Portrait of Maria Luisa, a sexworker and resident at Casa Xochiquetzal. Casa Xochiquetzal, a government run retirement community, in one of the poorest and most marginalized neighborhoods in Mexico City, give older and independent sex workers a community, health services, food and shelter, a space to learn about their human rights and courses to help them rediscover their self-confidence and deal with traumatic aspects of their lives. The shelter gives the women a dignified way out of their profession. It is the only such shelter existing in Latin America. Photo credit: Benedicte Desrus / Sipa Press
